Mario Forever Galaxy is an arcade shooter game that continues the popular Super Mario Bros. series. Nevertheless this time you do not control the Italian plumber himself. Instead, you pilot a spaceship that Mario flies through the galaxy, on his perpetual quest to rescue the Princess from Bowser.
The game format is very simple, one might even say rudimentary. While continuously advancing through space, you are supposed to shoot down targets moving toward you. Although the nature of these obstacles changes as your advance through the game, they never pose a pleasantly difficult challenge, neither requiring quick-thinking, nor swift reactions of complex movement combinations. There is a shop where you can upgrade your weapons or the ship’s technical capabilities, and which allows over 60 types of improvements. Nevertheless, the linear progression of the game’s level difficulties makes the upgrades almost redundant. The graphics of the game are of poor quality, as well, barely rising to the level of the early ‘90s. The display is 2D, and its resolution is very poor. The storyline follows the usual convoluted course of Mario’s adventures in search for Princess Peach, but as such, it hardly compensates for the game’s other drawbacks.
In conclusion, Mario Forever Galaxy proves to be neither a very engaging, nor visually pleasing game. You might briefly enjoy it as a quick break, but if you are looking for more intricate or uplifting gaming experience, it would most likely disappoint you. |
